The project of transfering technology for plantation management to produce active ingredients in Andrographis paniculata as bioactive substances in skin and hair cleansing products in Sakon Nakhon Province.

 The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) has provided funding for activities to promote and support research and innovation under the Research Knowledge Management and Transfer for Utilization Project for the year 2024 with the project “Technology Transfer on Plantation Management for the Production of Active Ingredients in Andrographis Paniculata as Bioactive Ingredients in Skin and Hair Cleansing Products in Sakon Nakhon Province” by Kasetsart Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Product Improvement Institute (KAPI), with Mr. Thotsaphon Umamanit, a researcher,professional level as the head of the project.

The research team collaborated with the Faculty of Public Health, Kasetsart University, Sakon Nakhon Campus, and the Sakon Nakhon Model Project to conduct research. The objectives were to transfer Andrographis paniculata plantation management technology to produce active compounds and to produce skin and hair cleansing products from Andrographis paniculata that meet the standards set by the Ministry of Public Health to the Muang Subdistrict Integrated Farming Community Enterprise. This aimed to create sustainable jobs and income.

In implementing the project, plantations managing technology to produce the active ingredient in Andrographis paniculata was transferred to communities in Sakon Nakhon Province. Samples of Andrographis paniculata grown in the local area were collected.  Andrographis paniculata active ingredients were extracted for use in skin and hair cleansing products. The product properties were examined in terms of physical, chemical, and microbiological aspects, as well as stability (shelf life). The project also transferred technology for producing three skin and hair cleansing products made from Andrographis paniculata: Andrographis paniculata herbal shampoo, Andrographis paniculata herbal shower cream, and Andrographis paniculata herbal soap. We have provided product distribution channels, promoted advertising, and developed webpage skills (upskills) for communities to create sustainable careers. The activities are free for participants. Creating quality jobs and promoting sustainable economic growth are another key mechanism for poverty reduction.

This project is part of the community’s fight against poverty in all its forms and areas. The university has a responsibility as a steward of key resources to support the wider community in eradicating poverty. It provides assistance to local communities to support the start of financially and socially sustainable businesses through education or related resources. It also aims to mobilize resources from various sources to support the country in achieving its poverty eradication goals. The project will run from May 15, 2024, to May 15, 2025, for a period of one year.
